Salt is an integral part of our diet. Sodium chloride, for the most part, allows us to add salt to our dishes and enhance flavour. However, it is consumed incorrectly and generally in excessive quantities.

Many of the salts found in supermarkets are very poor and not recommended for our health. In fact, these salts are so bleached and refined that they lose almost all their nutrients. Iodine, fluoride and anti-caking agents are then added.

Himalayan pink salt: a few special features

5g of salt. That's the amount we should ideally consume per person per day. Unfortunately, this is far from reality. Chef Jonathan Garnier had this to say: "(...) If we put the same percentage of salt in a homemade tomato coulis as there isin a commercial tomato sauce, we wouldn't be able to eat it!

Pink Himalayan salt allows you to add salt to your dishes in small quantities. This is a mine salt, not a sea salt; it comes from an ocean that disappeared millions of years ago. This mine can be found in north-east Pakistan, where the deposit is 600 metres deep.

So we are inheriting a Himalayan pink salt protected from pollution.

What are its benefits?

Pink Himalayan salt is said to have similar benefits to other sea salts. But it is also said to have other virtues:

  • It contains over 80 nutrients linked to its origin (potassium, zinc, selenium, manganese, etc.), including iron, which gives it its pink colour when oxidised;

  • This unrefined raw salt is also excellent as a cosmetic ingredient: it can be used as bath salt, in lip, face and body scrubs. It can also be used for oral hygiene, in toothpaste and mouthwash;

  • Pink Himalayan salt helps to rebalance the body's pH;

  • It improves the immune system;

  • This wholemeal salt hasanti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and relaxing properties;
