Nigella Oil
Our seeds are harvested in Ethiopia, a country known for producing some of the highest quality Nigella seeds. Its botanical name is Nigella Sativa, but it is also known by other names such as Black Cumin Seed, or in Arabic as Habbat As-Sawda or Habbat Al-Baraka. Its name 'Habachiya' comes from the Arabic translation of the term 'Ethiopian'.
In order to achieve Grade A status and 99% purity certified by third-party organisations, our freshly harvested Nigella Seed is first cleaned of impurities by two consecutive passes through professional sorting machines, and then purified and sorted by hand for several weeks to achieve a result that is close to perfection.
Wadi shibam black cumin oil is produced exclusively from a First Cold Mechanical Pressing of Ethiopian black cumin seeds, known as "Habachiya" A. This black cumin oil, with its many virtues, is as high quality as the seed from which it is produced.
Being a 100% Pure and Natural product, cold-pressed without any chemical treatment and therefore not subject to any chemical alteration or colouring, it is not surprising that, from time to time, the appearance of the oil, its taste and its colour are slightly different during the year depending on the Seed from which it is produced. Our black cumin oil is of Cosmetic and Food Quality.
To sum up, after analysing the fatty acid composition of our oil, it appears that it has one of the highest concentrations of essential polyunsaturated fatty acids and Omega 6. To put it simply, this is Nigella Oil par Excellence..
It has been shown to be useful in the treatment of:
- type 2 diabetes, with 2 grams a day helping to reduce fast sugars in the blood and insulin resistance.
- Epilepsy, as black cumin seeds have anti-seizure properties.
- mild arterial hypertension, as black cumin oil has a hypotensive effect.

- colon cancer, as Black Seed eliminates antibiotic-resistant staphylococcus aureus.
- Respiratory tract poisoning, as black cumin oil reduces wheezing and respiratory symptoms.
- addiction to opiates.
Finally, and more generally, black cumin oil is reputed to have the following virtues:
- analgesic, to combat pain
- anti-bacterial
- anti-inflammatory, to relieve muscular contractures, rheumatism and joint pain
- antioxidant, to help slow down the ageing process
- hepatoprotective, to protect the liver.
Nigella oil also improves concentration and is particularly suitable for dry, sensitive and irritated skin, as it is an excellent remedy for certain skin conditions such as:
