Musk: little-known origins

Musk is a fragrance that has been used for thousands of years. Its origins lie in an animal called the musk deer. This is a type of deer found mainly at high altitudes, in Siberia, the Himalayas, China and Tibet. This animal has the particularity of producing, in males, a scented substance secreted by the abdominal glands when it enters its reproductive period, in order to attract females. Musk comes from these glands. Cruel as it is, this animal was killed in order to recover the highly prized musk to make perfumes.

For ethical reasons and to protect this animal, which is now almost extinct, the musk used in perfumery is now totally synthetic.

Musk is still a highly coveted material, difficult to obtain and export, which explains its high price.

What is musk in pieces?

Lump musk is a square of solid musk whose traditional recipe is made up of several musks. There are several different musk-in-a-small-cut scents, for an incredible and unique olfactory journey!

Some musk pieces are enriched with essential oils, plant powders and other ingredients to create woody, spicy, floral, sweet or stronger fragrances.

Lump musk is a very special fragrance because it appeals to both men and women. Its mixed fragrance is a real pleasure for your senses.

First of all, you should know that our solid musk is a high-quality fragrance, guaranteed alcohol-free, preservative-free and colouring-free! It's a subtle yet long-lasting fragrance, whose scents are sure to remind you of the Orient.

Musk in pieces has the advantage of being fairly economical. Depending on how it's used, a square of musk can be kept for years without even losing its scent.

How do I use musk pieces?

If you're used to liquid perfumes like Al Nabil, and roll-on musks like our ADN black musk, using solid musk is a little different.

You can use it in several ways, depending on your mood and your needs:

- On your skin, as a perfume: musk pieces add a touch of softness and a light scent that's very pleasant on the skin. You can rub the musk square between your hands, then run your hands over your neck, bust and all the pulse points. You can also rub the musk square directly onto your skin.

- As a deodorant: Yes, musk pieces can be used as a natural deodorant ! It won't have the properties of a moisture absorber, but it will do a great job of preventing unpleasant odours! In this case, use one square of musk per person for hygiene.

- In your wardrobe: To replace the sachet of lavender that's been in your wardrobe for ages... you can place one or more pieces of musk between your clothes. A fresh, clean smell will invade your wardrobe, much to your delight!

- Body care: It may seem surprising, but your musk pieces can also be used in your body care routine. More specifically, in hammam treatments. All you have to do is grate a few pieces of musk and mix them with black beldi soap (called ghassoul). Grab your kessa glove and your natural body scrub is just waiting for you!

- In your hoover: Here's a really cool trick! You can cut a small piece of musk and place it in the bag of your hoover. Once you've switched it on, your hoover will continuously emit a sweet musk scent.

- As incense: you can scrape off a small piece of musk and place it in a perfume burner with a tea light. The scent of musk will invade your home and diffuse an enchanting fragrance throughout your rooms.

- In your shoes: to combat unpleasant odours, break off a small piece of musk and place it in your shoes. Discretion guaranteed!

As you can see, musk pieces are really multi-purpose. You can use it in your car, your drawers, in a potpourri mixed with other scents like frankincense for example. It's up to you to use your imagination, appeal to your senses and enjoy this delicious oriental fragrance.

Tip: When your musk starts to lose its scent, simply rub it a little, using a cloth for example, or even scratch it to revive the scent.

Precautions

Be careful not to leave your musk stone within the reach of children.

Do not swallow and keep away from heat and moisture to prevent your muskstone from melting. If it comes into contact with your eyes, rinse immediately with clean water.

Before using this natural musk square on your skin, make sure you're not allergic to it. You can also do a test in the crease of your elbow 24 hours beforehand. In the event of an allergic reaction, stop using it immediately and use another product instead. If a skin reaction occurs, we advise you to seek advice from your doctor.
