Myrtle grows naturally all around the Mediterranean. Regularly used in Corsica, Sicily and Sardinia, its leaves are used in a variety of preparations.
This small tree, common in the garrigues, is also known by other names: Jewish Myrtle, Common Myrtle, Nerto, Nerte or Myrtus Communis.

As an infusion
With the equivalent of 25g of leaves for 1 litre of water.
In powder form
You can blend the leaves very finely to obtain a powder. Myrtle powder can then be consumed at a rate of 5g before meals.
In syrup
You can prepare 1 litre of boiling water and pour over 70g of Myrtle leaves. Leave to macerate for 6 hours, then add 1.8kg of sugar (or a little less in the case of brown sugar). Cook to a syrupy consistency. Strain. Drink with water.
