The origin of lemon oil: a bit of history

The Lemon tree originated on the borders of China and India, in the region of Kashmir to be precise. It quickly arrived in the Middle East and acclimatised easily. The Hebrews found it extremely useful and learned to grow lemons.

The Arabs, for their part, attributed great therapeutic and medicinal benefits to it. Lemons are still renowned for their antiseptic and disinfectant properties.

What they called "limoun", which gave rise to the names "lemon" and "limonade", was later exported to Spain.

A member of the Rutaceae family, lemons are now found in many hot countries, including Sicily, Italy, Morocco and Egypt.

The lemon is a citrus fruit that's a favourite in the kitchen, as well as for its aesthetic appeal !
