Camphor comes from the camphor tree. It is an organic compound obtained by distilling the bark, leaves or branches of this tree. This chemical process produces a white crystallised product with a highly aromatic odour.
Perhaps this product doesn't mean anything to you at first sight... But what if we told you about Tiger Balm ? This famous product from Chinese medicine is used to soothe many ailments. Well, camphor is one of its ingredients! It's even one of the main ingredients.

Why use camphor pieces?
This strange compound comes in the form of small balls of pure camphor. For a quantity of 20 grams.
They can be dissolved in vegetable oil or alcohol. In this way, you can create your own massage oils, tiger balm and other topical preparations.

- 900g of a vegetable oil, such as sweet almond oil
This lump camphor-based oil can be used as a massage oil, ideal for relieving muscular tension.
Camphor can also be used to make perfumes and deodorants.
It can also be used as a fumigant by placing it on a coal in an incense burner.
The benefits of camphor
Pieces of camphor have incredible health benefits:
- Used as an oil or balm, it soothes muscular pain and rheumatism;
- It can be applied to stimulated limbs before physical exertion. This helps protect against the cold and improves muscle warm-up;
- Camphor has antiviral, anti-infectious and antiseptic properties ;
- In Tiger Balm, it stimulates and clears the respiratory tract;
- It can be used to treat migraines;
- When fumigated, chopped camphor clears the air.
Good to know: Preparing camphor pieces produces an almost immediate sensation of heat. This is a perfectly normal reaction due to the dilation of the blood vessels.

Camphor pieces should only be used externally.
It may only be used internally by professionals in a medical context.
It must not be used on children, or by pregnant or breast-feeding women.
