Description

Historically, kohl has been around for over 4,500 years. It was first used by the Egyptians mainly to protect against the refractions of intense light emitted by the desert sands. Its medicinal properties were also reputed to prevent all kinds of eye infections.
Quickly won over by the depth and mystery that kohl conferred on their looks, Pharaohs and other subjects, both men and women, used this black powder to make up their eyes.
Over the centuries, kohl continued to be used by Arabs and Berbers.

Our kohl powder is handmade in Morocco and is 100% natural. It is made from saffron, date stones, olive stones, Damascus rose petals and antimony.

Use and purpose :

- In alternative medicine:

If your eyes suffer from the sun or wind and you don't wear glasses, kohl will be a great help.
The first few times you apply kohl, you may secrete tear fluid, a sign that the eyeball is cleaning itself. So watch out for contact lenses! If you wear them, wait a few minutes after applying the kohl for it to set properly, then put in your contact lenses.

- In cosmetics:

Traditionally, kohl is applied using a wooden stick called a mirwed. After coating it with kohl powder, the stick is slid back and forth between the two eyelids, and the kohl harmoniously highlights the eye or eyelid. Gently remove the mirwed from the outside of the eye to allow the kohl to spread.
You can rectify the line if necessary.
Your eyes may water at the first application, but don't worry, remember that kohl is first and foremost an eye cleanser. Leave it to weep, clean off any excess and you're done!

Khôl and controversy... what you need to know!
Powdered khôl is also very controversial because of the regular presence of lead and sometimes even iron filings.
Our artisanal khôl is made by a trusted person in Morocco and contains neither.
The presence of lead, in small doses, is not dangerous according to certain studies, but this is not universally accepted.
As for iron filings, they are more than dangerous. Here's a trick to check for iron filings in your kohl: pour your kohl onto a sheet of paper and place a magnet underneath it. If the kohl moves and follows the magnet, it contains iron filings. We strongly advise you to throw it away.
