Blue NILA is best known for being highly prized by Saharan women for its lightening and softening properties.

Our Huiles de Ricin website introduces you to blue NILA, your beauty asset
Origin of blue NILA powder
Blue NILA, Nili, Indian Indigo, Anil, Anila tinctoria, Indigofera... and many other names.
Originally and still today, NILA comes from the Indigo tree, a shrub in the Fabaceae family. Its leaves are used by dyers for their very attractive colour, Indigo blue, a hue obtained thanks to Indigotine, a molecule present in the plant.
The blue NILA is processed in water, which is then solidified into a powder. It's a very long process, and requires a great deal of know-how.
Blue NILA originated in India and has been used since time immemorial. It has been exported to every continent, including Africa, where Sub-Saharan women have cultivated it, adopted it and made it their beauty ally. Even today, blue Nila remains highly prized in the Sahara.
